Question of flavor mixing in nucleon decay

  • 1. National Lab. for High Energy Physics, Oho, Ibaraki (Japan)

Description

It is argued that in a class of extended grand unified theories dominant effective operators of nucleon decay generated by gauge boson exchange consist of ordinary (u, d and s) quarks and leptons belonging to e- and μ- families, hence no strong suppression of the decay amplitude due to mixing to heavy fermions is expected. It is also discussed how much fraction of the decay products may contain muons and strange particles. (author)
