Experimental study on the efficiency of slowing-down of exploding diamagnetic plasma clouds by a magnetic field

  • 1. AN SSSR, Novosibirsk. Inst. Teoreticheskoj i Prikladnoj Mekhaniki

Description

Effect of field diffusion on slowing-down with uniform magnetic field B0 of laser plasma spherical clouds expanding in vacuum was investigated. Anomalous nature of magnetic field diffusion with effective frequency of electron collisions Veff ≅ 0.3 ωcl was established. Recorded level of low-hybrid turbulence in skin-layer corresponds to experimental Veff for cases of known current instabilities at a lower hybrid frequency. It is experimentally established that under such turbulence conditions plasma slowing down perpendicularly to B0 occurs only if balance of plasma and field pressures is reached in cloud expansion scales exceeding the ion Larmor radius
