Installation for modulated electron beam production in the electromagnet gap of an EPR spectrometer for study on radiation-chemical reactions in water solutions

Description

An installation for electron beam production with 80 keV energy in the electromagnet gap of an EPR spectrometer is described. A 12 mm beam is used for irradiation of aqueous solutions in a balanced spin induction resonator. Electrons are totally absorbed in a specimen and do not enter the resonator, that enables to eliminate electron current and air ionization in the resonator Q-factor and parasitic frequency modulation. The dose rate absorbed in the working chamber reaches 670 krad/s at beam current of about 40 μA. The modulator forms a totally modulated beam. The beam current rise time and drop time are 20 ns. The pulse recurrence frequency can vary from 0 to 10 MHz, that allows to carry out both stationary and kinetic experiments
