Point source produced electromagnetic signals in an anisotropic plasma
Description
Some theoretical aspects of the electromagnetic waves propagation in an anisotropic plasma along the direction of the external magnetic field are discussed. Uniform, time independent and relatively strong magnetic fields (the cyclotron frequency of the order of the plasma frequency) are considered. An attempt is made to find the shape of the signal produced by a point source of electromagnetic radiation. Asymptotic methods for the solutions of the hyperbolic, dispersive equations have been used. It has been found that the signal consists of two parts: the main, principal part and the precursor which decays in time as tsup(-1/2). (S.B.)
