Effect if heavy ion beams to centrosome amplification in mammalian cells

Description

Centrosome is an organelle, which function as microtubules organizing center. Centrosome aberration such as centrosome amplification causes chromosome instability. In previous reports, we showed that irradiated cells increased centrosomes number. In this study, we investigated that whether high linear energy transfer (LET) irradiation induce more effective molecular change of γ-tubulin, which is centrosome protein than low LET irradiation. γ-tubulin are monoubiquitylated by BRCA1. We found that monoubiquitilation level of γ-tubulin was reduced after irradiation. Moreover, monoubiquitilation level of γ-tubulin was effectively reduced after High LET irradiation. (author)
