Radiation protection for the HERA colliding beam facility
Description
HERA, a high-energy electron-proton storage ring is situated partly on the DESY site and partly below public and private ground. Radiation problems are considered concerning this special situation. Three problems of calculating radiation fields are selected: calculation of neutron dose equivalent in the environment; the shielding within the experimental halls where necessarily the iron of the detectors has to be used as part of the main shield; and the estimation of radiation fields inside the accelerator tunnel due to synchrotron radiation, neutrons, and induced radioactivity
