Optimization of shell implosion driven by black body radiation

  • 1. Osaka Univ., Suita (Japan). Inst. of Laser Engineering

Description

We have studied a spherical ablative shell implosion under an assumption of a constant mass ablation rate. It is found that implosion dynamics is determined only by one parameter. The theory is applied to a shell implosion driven by a steady black body radiation and compared with computer simulations. We have estimated scaling laws of optimum aspect ratio and shell radius on the radiation intensity IR, which lead to the maximum hydrodynamic efficiency, as R0/ΔR∝IR1/2, and R0∝IR1/6. (author)
