Formation of amorphous metals by solid state reactions of hydrogen with an intermetallic compound
Description
A short review of a new method to produce amorphous metals in the solid state is given. The reaction of elemental hydrogen with crystalline intermetallic compounds is examined in the well studied Zr3Rhsystem. Requirements for the process and some properties of the amorphous alloy are discussed in comparison with liquid quenched metals. Similarities and differences to the solid state reaction of pure elemental metallic multilayers without hydrogen are shown
