Spleen homogenate for biological treatment of radiation induced disorders in the activity of certain serum and liver enzymes

Description
The influence of the spleen homogenate injection as a curative substance for gamma irradiation effects has been investigated in male albino rats. Experimental animals were divided into four groups; normal group received no treatment, control group received spleen homogenate intraperitoneal injection, irradiated group received whole body gamma irradiation at 6 Gy as well as double treated group received initial treatment of whole body gamma irradiation at 6 Gy followed four hours later by spleen, homogenate injection. The parameters investigated were the activities of certain blood and liver enzymes related to liver function evaluation. Those were acid and alkaline phosphatases, transaminases (GOT) and (GPT) as well as 5-nucleotidase. The results showed remarkable changes in the activity of all the tested enzymes due to whole body gamma irradiation. Administration of spleen homogenate to irradiated animals showed to ameliorate such radiation induced disorders in serum and liver enzymes confirming a protective role on liver function
