Application of CF4 gas to 4πβ-γ coincidence counting

  • 1. Dept. of Nuclear Engineering, Nagoya Univ. (Japan)

Description

It is well known that coincidence efficiency functions in 4πβ-γ counting can be quickly measured by using a bi-dimensional data acquisition system with the computer descrimination method described by Smith using a 4πβ pressurised proportional counter as developed by Baerg et al. To simplify the counter construction and to shorten the time required for gas replacement following source exchange, we investigated the use of CF4 gas at atmospheric pressure instead of the more usual pressurised Ar 90%-CH4 10% mixture. The presented gas gave good plateau characteristics and similar coincidence efficiency functions to those obtained with pressurised Ar 90%-CH4 10% mixture. (orig.)
