2,3,4-trihydroxy-4'-sulfo-azobenzene as a new reagnet for photometric determination of molybdenum (6)

  • 1. Azerbajdzhanskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ., Baku (USSR)

Description

2,3,4-trihydroxy-4'-sulpho-azobenzene (TSAB) has been synthesized. Its dissociation constants have been determined potentiometrically: K1=(0.036+-0.07)x10-5, K2=(0.91+-0.04)x10-7; K3=(0.83+-0.05)x10-9. Molybdenum (6) reacts with TSAB to form a coloured compound which can be used for photometric determination. The complex yield is maximum at pH 2 and 5, lambdasub(max)=460nm, Mo:R=1:2. The molar absorptivities at pH 2 and 5 (460 nm) are 1.85x104 and 2.5x104 respectively. The reaction selectivity has been examined. Procedures have been developed of determining molybdenum(6) in pure salts, model mixtures, town water, soil
