Effects of cyclic deformation and irradiation at low temperature on the internal friction of pure aluminium

  • 1. Ecole Polytechnique Federale, Lausanne (Switzerland). Lab. de Genie Atomique

Description

The spectrum of internal friction (measurement frequency of about 2.5 Hz) as a function of temperature obtained with a sample of 99.999 % Al after cyclic deformation presents a peak at about 260 K. This peak is almost nonexistent after cold-working. The evolution of the spectra with annealing temperature and annealing time is described. The results are interpreted by the presence and the thermally activated migration of dislocation loops and impurities. (author)
