Migration and distribution of 90Sr, 137Cs, 239, 240Pu in the soil-plant cover of the East-Ural Radioactive Trace frontal part

Description

During 2003-2007 years the radioecological investigations of the soil-plant cover of East-Ural Radioactive Trace frontal part have been conducted. In the examined soils the maximal contamination density of 90Sr, 137Cs and 239, 240Pu are 39.8, 1.2 and 0.1 MBq/m2 respectively. The decrease of these values with the distance from the accident epicenter is approximated by exponential function. The total deposition in investigated soils is for 90Sr - 428.2 TBq, for 137Cs - 15.1 TBq, for 239, 240Pu - 1.2 TBq. In close proximity to the epicenter of nuclear accident the concentration of the main contaminant (90Sr) in aboveground phytomass of plants reached hundred of thousands of Bq kgdw-1 and in seeds - tens of thousands of Bq kgdw-1. The ability of plants to concentrate 90Sr is caused by specific belonging of plants and by soil-ecological properties of their habitat
