Pulse shape optimization of pulses from scintillation detectors in high counting rate gamma ray spectroscopy

Description

It has shown that pulse from scintillation detector can be made shorter than the duration of physical phenomenon of pulse generation. Using this approach, quality gamma ray spectroscopy is made possible by relatively slow NaI(Tl) and BGO detectors. Loss of energy resolution caused by pulse shortening could be significantly reduced by selective extension of time for integration of shortened pulses. It has been confirmed experimentally that the worsening of the resolution due to the pulse shortening becomes less important as the energy increases. (author)
