Determination of americium concentration in nuclear irradiated fuels

Description
The isotope dilution mass spectrometry technique was used to obtain americium isotope concentration in seven nuclear irradiated fuel samples from the Obrigheim reactor, KWO, Germany. The procedure involves the addition of a spike solution enriched in 243 Am. The purification of americium fractions was performed by using a cation exchange resin Dowex 50W in 0,25 M α-hydroxy-isobutyric acid, pH=4,6 media. Mean precision values of 0,5% was achieved for americium isotopes. (author)
