Description
The applicability of the risk concept for the evaluation of a maximum permissible annual exposure (MPAE) to short-lived 222Rn-daughters in air is discussed on the basis of available data about lung cancer mortality among uranium miners. By comparison with other occupational risks and the background level of these nuclides in normal air a MPAE in the range of 2.5-5 WLM is derived which corresponds to a Rn-activity concentration of 20-40 pCi/liter in radioactive equilibrium with its daughters. Finally the relation between exposure and lung dose is discussed with respect to the importance of uncombined daughter atoms and the influence of ventilation. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
(orig./AK)Additional details
