Description

As to preserve its high rank, thyroid scintigraphy has to meet three demands: a) the technique has to be optimized and highly resolved, b) quantification of tracer uptake is indispensable, c) adaequate suppression techniques must be used. At present, 99mTc has still some advantages for routine applications when compared with 123I. Scintigrams obtained are well interpretable and beneficial for the management of thyroid diseases. A main indication is to prove the existence of autonomy and as well to judge its functional relevance. Furthermore, the method is indicated in the differential diagnosis of hyperthyroidism, in therapy control of autonomous goiters after radioiodine and in the evaluation of functioning thyroid tissue. Abstract (German)
