Application of rare earth intensifying screens in X-ray examination of children

Description
Properties and application in pediatrics of intensifying screens, type EhU-I, manufactured from yttrium oxysulfide activated with terbium are considered. It was shown that at the effective quantum energy values ranging within 25-50 keV, EhU-I screens manufactured from a luminophore of optimal composition enabled the exposure dose to be reduced by a factor of 4 as compared to the most widely used calcium-tungstate intensifying screens, types ''Standard'' (EhU-B2), ''Universal'', ''Par-speed'', ''Saphir'', etc. In some cases, the image quality is improved due to reduced dynamic unsharpness. EhU-I screens are compared to other types of modern highly effective intensifying screens. The writers demonstrate advantages shown by EhU-I screens in using relatively ''mild'' irradiation (Esub(ef)<47-50 keV). The advantages lie in increased sensitivity and in a slow ''hard radiation run''
