An assessment of the role of atomic processes for dispersing the power in a divertor

Description
The present concepts for power and particle control in the next generation of tokamak experiments rely upon atomic processes to transfer the power and momentum from the divertor plasma to the divertor chamber walls. These concepts are being evaluated with sophisticated one- and two-dimensional divertor models. We present a survey of some of the candidate atomic processes of impurity radiation, hydrogen radiation and atomic physics and molecular effects to aid the development of the models. (orig.)
