Design and fabrication of 98M-02K capsule for the irradiation of reactor vessel materials in HANARO

  • 1. KAERI, Taejon (Korea, Republic of)

Description

Based on the obtained results and experience from the irradiation of the first instrumented capsule (97M-01K) in HANARO, a new capsule (98M-02K) for the irradiation of reactor pressure vessel was designed and fabricated. The purpose of this capsule test was to evaluate the nuclear irradiation performance of the Korean nuclear reactor pressure vessel material that was fabricated by HANJUNG Co. There are 5 stages having specimens and independent electric heaters in the capsule mainbody. 12 thermocouples and 4 sets of Ni-Ti-Fe Neutron Fluence Monitors were also inserted in the capsule to measure the temperatures of the capsule parts and thermal/fast neutron fluences, respectively. Various types of specimens such as round compact tension, insert sharpy, tensile specimens will be inserted in the capsule. 98M-02K capsule will be irradiated in the CT or IR2 test holes of HANARO at 290±10 .deg. C up to the fast neutron fluence (E>0.82 MeV) of 9.0x1019 (n/cm2)
