Fragmentation of the nucleus at high energy

  • 1. Nihon Univ., Tokyo. Dept. of Physics

Description

Light fragment production in proton-nucleus collisions at high energy is analyzed. The statistical model of Aichelin and Huefner is extended to include energy conservation. This enables the determination of the residual energies which are left over in the nucleus after the collision. The extracted residual energy is proportional to the target mass number and is about 8.4 MeV per nucleon. This corresponds to temperature T proportional 10 MeV if the Fermi gas model is assumed.
