Description
Phase transformation studies as a function of pressure and temperature of energetic materials are important to understand their explosive properties. 2,4-Dinitroanisole (DNAN) is an insensitive secondary explosive that is being considered as a safer substitute to trinitrotoluene (TNT). This melt cast explosive 2,4-Dinitroanisole has been studied under pressure using Raman spectroscopy. Appearance of new bands and discontinuity in the ω vs P plots at 1 GPa and 3 GPa indicate possible phase transformations. Further work is in progress to identify the phases and their properties.
