Determination of mercury in environmental samples by neutron activation
Creators

Description
The procedure developed and standardised for estimation of trace quantities of mercury in environmental samples involves preconcentration of the nuclide by coprecipitation on copper sulphide, irradiation with a neutron flux of 1012 ncm-2 sec-1, ion exchange separation and quantitative determination by gamma spectroscopy by counting 197Hg isotope. The technique has been applied for estimating mercury in fresh water, sea water and food stuff samples which had mercury concentration ranging from 65.70 ng/l, 85-400 ng/l and 0.5-2.7 ng/g respectively.
