Ghost plants lead US nuclear renaissance

Description

Present state of US nuclear power in connection with growth of demand for power in the country is discussed. It is noted that increasing power production in the US nuclear energetics is due to the increment of nuclear power unit efficiency and licence prolongation to their operation. Part of the US nuclear energetics in the electric power production is briefly reviewed. Rise in the electric power production at a sacrifice in addition to life of present-day nuclear power blocks, increase of their power and improvement of operation characteristics are predicted

Abstract (Russian)

Обсуждается положение дел в ядерной энергетике США в связи с увеличением роста спроса на энергию в стране. Отмечается, что увеличение производства энергии в ядерной энергетике США происходит в результате наращивания мощности энергоблоков и продления лицензий на их эксплуатацию. Дан краткий обзор доли ядерной энергетики США в производстве электроэнергии. Прогнозируется рост производства электроэнергии за счет продления срока службы существующих ядерных энергоблоков, увеличение их мощности и улучшение эксплуатационных характеристик
