Extraction-photometric method of rhenium determination as sulfite complexes

Description
Re(IV) is extracted from 3.2NHCl containing SO32- with diisoamylamine in EtOAc or CCl4 as [(Me2CH2CH2CH2)2 NH2+]2ReO(SO3)Cl2 (maximum absorbance at 390 and 420 nm in EtOAc). Mo interferes in the determination but W does not. The interference of Mo can be removed by passing the dissolved sample through the anion exchange resin EDE-10 P in the phosphate form. The method was used to determine 6 x 10-4% Re in molybdenites; the relative error was 10%
