On the choice of the criterion for tuning of linear accelerator resonators

The question of choosing a criterion for tuning resonators is considered in order to ensure the efficiency of a system for stabilizing the amplitude of the accelerating field in the resonators of linear accelerators. Basing on a calculation of the operation mode of the feeder connecting the HF generator with the accelerating resonators, it is shown that tuning of the resonators with the field maximum frequently leads to worsening of the feeder operation mode because of stationary waves. The suggestion is made that the maximum coefficient of the running wave in the output feeder should be regarded as the criterion of correct tuning of the resonator
