Description

Heat shrinkable polymeric materials are now being used to re-insulate joints in single and 3 core power cables, particularly on cables used for the distribution of power on systems with voltages up to 36 kV. This paper discusses a theoretical evaluation of the electrical stress control in the joint insulation, some of the new materials and processing technology used for the heat shrinkable components and the development of the joint for 3 core cables. An application test programme is reviewed and the results reported. (author)
