Description
The title compound has been prepared in 84% overall yield from 3-chloroperbenzoic acid and 5-endo-nitrobicyclo[2.2.1]- heptene followed by treatment with anhydrous magnesium bromide. A single-crystal X-ray diffraction study on the title compound showed that a hydrogen-bonded assembly of three molecules forms the asymmetric unit in the cell. The hydrogen bonds, extending in infinite helical chains along the b direction of the unit cell, make use of only the alcohol groups; there is no nitro-group involvement
