Description

An important aspect of the studies of heavy ion interactions is the understanding of how reaction mechanisms change with increasing projectile energy. Such an investigation is plausible only when a complete knowledge of the kinematically relevant quantities can be obtained for a particular reaction at a particular energy. Using CR-39 as the nuclear track detector, we have studied the etched tracks produced in the reaction of uranium incident on gold targets, at two different energies, i.e. 8.7 MeV/u and 16.7 MeV/u.
