μ Cep as an indicator of telluric H2O lines in the photographic infrared spectral region

Description

Identification of spectral lines in the photogratic infrared spectral region of carbon stars is complicated due to the blending of the telluric H2O lines which are generally fairly strong. Microphotometric scans of the spectrograms of μ Cep, a typical M-type star, by PDS in the spectral region from around 7900 A to 8600 A show features of the telluric H2O lines clearly. Therefore, it is convenient and desirable to compare the spectral features of carbon stars in that region with those of μ Cep for deducing the true intensities of stellar lines. In the PDS scans of the μ Cep spectrograms are demonstrated the identified telluric H2O lines with the designations of P, Q and R and of quantum number in the spectral region. Some stellar atomic lines which are identified are also shown. (Mori, K.)
