Computers in radiotherapy planning systems - Accuracy of dose calculations and inhomogeneity corrections -, 4

  • 1. National Inst. of Radiological Sciences, Chiba (Japan)

Description

With the increased availability of high quality electron beams with sharp falling eddges, and narrow penumbras, and with wide spread use of accurate diagnostic techniques like computed tomography, the need of accurate electron beam dose planning programs has increased considerably. However, those programs have the larger complexity in dose planning and inhomogeneity corrections, and also have the larger difficulty to estimate a real accuracy of them for each patient as compared with photons. The present report concerns the methods of electron dose calculations and of inhomogeneity corrections, and some of those accuracies. (author)
