Description

Objective: To study the effects of an anti-radiation medicine E838 on malignant transformation of mammalian cell induced by radiation. Methods: CHO and CHL cells were cultured in the RPMI 1640 medium with or without E838 and were irradiated with different doses of 137Cs γ-rays. The total number of colonies and type I, II and III malignant transformation foci were counted for each group three weeks after irradiation. Results: Statistic analysis indicated that the colony-forming rate of CHO cells in the groups cultured with E838 (1 μg/ml) was significantly higher than that of groups without E838 after irradiation with 3 Gy 137Cs γ-rays (P < 0.05). The transformation rate of the group with E838 was lower than that of the group without (P < 0.01). There was a similar tendency in CHL cells at the same irradiation dose, without statistical significance. Conclusion: In the proper concentration range E838 shows certain inhibitory effects on malignant transformation of mammalian cells induced by radiation
