Transient two-phase flows

Description

Theoretical and experimental results are given on transients in nozzles and turbines, under conditions which cause appearance and motion of a condensed phase. It is shown that non-equilibrium phase changes in transonic flows may lead to nonstationary shock waves which, through their displacements, induce pulsations of the flow variables with a frequency of 0.3 to 1.5 kHz. Possible break of distributor blades and of rotor blades in turbines, due to transient phenomena in wet steam, are analyzed
