Uranium isotope separation and compound used in this process

Description

This invention concerns a compound formed of a molecule containing the ion uranyl, and a process for separating the isotopes from the uranium that utilizes compounds of this type. This uranium compound is irradiated at a wave length of 810 to 1116 cm-1 to form a selectively excited portion of the uranium compound which is enriched with one of the uranium isotopes and the enriched portion is separated. The preparation stage of the uranium compound consists in vaporizing this uranyl compound containing not less than two uranium isotopes so that this compound is in the vapour phase at a vapour pressure of not less than about 0.1 mm of mercury
