Ion cyclotron-resonance heating in the TFR Tokamak

Description

The propagation of waves in Tokamak configurations is analyzed experimentally. Various diagnostic methods are employed. The antenna coupling resistance, magnetic loop measurements and a coherent scattering experiment with a 10.6μm (CO2) laser beam are discussed. The results of heating experiments at high powers are given in the next chapter. The complexity of Tokomak discharges necessitates the use of a whole variety of diagnostic techniques ranging from ultraviolet spectroscopy and microwave interferometry to neutron detection. The results obtained from various experiments giving information about specific areas in the field of heating are grouped together. The isotopic composition of the plasma is demonstrated together with the way in which an electromagnetic wave can be used for direct heating of the electrons in plasmas. Examples of complete energy balances in discharges with additional heating are given

Abstract (French)

On a analyse experimentalement la propagation de l'onde dans la configuration Tokamak. Differents moyens de diagnostics sont utilises pour aborder cette etude. La resistance de couplage d'une antenne, des mesures de boucles magnetiques ainsi qu'une experience de diffusion coherente d'un faisceau laser a 10,6 μm (CO2). Dans le chapitre suivant, on rend compte des resultats de chauffage obtenus lors d'experience a forte puissance. La complexite des decharges Tokamaks necessite l'usage de diagnostics varies relevant de techniques aussi differentes que la spectroscopie ultraviolet, l'interferometrie microonde ou la detection neutronique. On essaye de reunir un certain nombre de resultats experimentaux obtenus a l'occasion d'experiences differentes qui donnent chacun un eclairage specifique sur un point particulier de chauffage. On montre l'effet de la composition isotopique du plasma, la mise en evidence du chauffage direct des electrons par l'onde electromagnetique, et on donne des exemples de bilans complets de la decharge en presence de chauffage additionnel
