Determination of hydrogen and sodium profiles at the glass surfaces by nuclear methods

Description

A description of the methods used is given. They are based on direct observation of nuclear reactions produced by nitrogen-15 ions of 6.38 to 10 MeV energy and protons of 1 to 1.1 MeV energy. The performances of these techniques which are particularly interesting to explore the first few microns of the glass surface, non destructively, are presented. It is shown that the migration of hydrogen and sodium, during the determination is negligible when appropriate experimental conditions are used. Examples of application to glasses submitted to lixiviation are given

Abstract (French)

Les methodes mises en oeuvre sont decrites. Elles reposent sur l'observation directe de reactions nucleaires induites par des ions d'azote 15 de 6,38 a 10 MeV et des protons de 1 a 1,1 MeV environ. Les performances de ces techniques, specialement interessantes pour explorer, de maniere non destructive, les premiers micrometres sous la surface des verres, sont exposees. On montre que la migration de l'hydrogene et du sodium est negligeable en adoptant des conditions experimentales appropriees. Des exemples d'application a des verres ayant subi une lixiviation aqueuse sont presentes
