Measurements of R with the LENA detector
Description
The ratio known as R in e+e- annihilations is measured with the LENA detector at the DORIS e+e- storage ring. The measurements cover the energies 7.40 to 7.49 GeV and 8.67 to 9.43 GeV. The author finds R to be constant with a value R = 3.37 +/- 0.06(stat.) +/- 0.23(syst.). This value of R agrees with the QCD prediction R = 3.52, and rules out the possibility of extra charge 1/3 or charge 2/3 quark pairs produced below 7.4 GeV and decaying in a similar way to the usual quarks. No narrow resonances are observed with (GAMMA/sub ee/GAMMA/sub HAD/GAMMA/sub TOT)>300 eV
