Statistical properties of randomly broken objects and of multivalley structures in disordered systems

Description

The statistical properties of the multivalley structure of disordered systems and of randomly broken objects have lots of features in common. For all these problems, if Ws denotes the weight of the sth piece, we show that the probability distributions P1(W1) of the largest piece W1, P2(W2) of the second largest piece, and Π(Y) of Y = Σs Ws2 have always singularities at W1 = 1/n, W2 = 1/n and Y = 1/n, n = 1, 2, 3,...
