Pulsed neutron well-logging method

Description

The patent presents a pulsed neutron well-logging method for determining earth formation characteristics using cumulative count curves. A pulsed neutron source and two gamma-ray detectors are pulled upwardly through a borehole. Neutrons from the source irradiate the earth formations, and gamma rays emanating from the irradiated formations are counted in the detectors. The time period between the neutron pulse and the detection of gamma rays is used to calculate the earth formation characteristics. The gamma rays are cumulatively counted in a plurality of separate time bins between each of the neutron pulses, from which the formation lifetime decay constant can be calculated. Also a processor charges the pulse firing rate every 5.08 cm depth increment based on the new formation lifetime constant calculated. (U.K.)
