Chernobyl accidents observed on Ryukyu Islands
Description
It was all of sudden that the atomic power plant accident occurred at Chernobyl, USSR, on April 26, 1986. Tremendous amount of radionuclides as fission product has been scattered into the atmosphere and caused enormous atmospheric contaminations not only on the European countries but also throughout the world. The radionuclides induced from the accident were also observed on Okinawa Island on May 5, 1986, two days after the observation on Japan mainland. The observed radionuclides are such as Mo-99, Te-132, I-131, 132, Cs-134, 137 and Ru-103 which were also observed on Japan mainland. The atmospheric contaminations were observed for almost a month showing 3 times of the contaminations on May 6, 15 and 24. The several survived nuclides are positively circulating, being accompanied with Jet Stream, throughout the would on the Northern Hemisphere. (author)
