Irradiation of water to improve 15O specific activity

  • 1. Univ. of Washington, Seattle (United States)

Description

A flow-through water target for production of O15O and C15O using a proton beam from a cyclotron. The aluminium target has a window thickness such that oxygen-15, carbon-11, and nitrogen-13 can be produced in it. The target has been tested at currents up to 62 microamps. Some carbon-11 and nitrogen-13 were produced. Addition of a small amount of oxygen to the water increases oxygen-15 recovery
