Clinical application of radioisotope diagnosis in parathyroid hyperplasma

  • 1. Meditsinska Akademiya, Sofia (Bulgaria). Nauchen Inst. po Rentgenologiya i Radiobiologiya

Description

Twenty three patients, 14 of whom with primary and 9 with secondary hiperparathyroidism, were examined on gamma-camera with 75Selenium-selenmethionine and 99Tc pertechnate. Positive scan was obtained in 56.5% of the patients. It is concluded that gamma-camera scintigraphy of the parathyroid glands is essential for clinica-practice. It may determine the further behaviour, the choice of treatment and the prognosis for the patient. The method is one of the basic ones for visualization of the parathyroid glands. It furnishes the opportunity to visualize small dimension zones and essentually shortenes the examination time, in comparison with conventional scintigraphy. (authors)
