Nuclear fusion by means of inertial confinement
Description
As an introduction assessment criteria for fusion power plants are discussed and inertial fusion is differentiated from fusion with magnetic confinement. The operational conditions for inertial fusion, the energy demand for compression and heating as well as typical properties of possible drivers and of the corresponding fusion power plants are dealt with in detail Special driver problems are discussed by the expample of light ion concept. Problems of reactor technology and a prospective view on the possibilities for realization of inertial fusion conclude the paper. (GG)
