A new iodo-amphetamine for rapid positron tomographic measurement of brain blood flow with 122I
- 1. University of California, Berkeley (USA)
Description
The halogen-labeled amphetamines initially investigated now appear to give reliable measures of regional blood flow in the brain. We have synthesized a new congener, 2,5 -dimethoxy-N,N-dimethyl-4-iodoamphetamine, which has four advantages as a brain blood indicator: 1) synthesis rapid enough for labeling with 3.6 min 122I (available from a generator); 2) high specific activity; 3) low patient radiation dose; and 4) potential for repeat studies at 15-20 min intervals
