Quasirotational ground state band in 104Cd

Description
The 102Pd(α,2n#betta#)104Cd reaction has been utilized for the investigation of the quasirotational ground state band in 104Cd. Single #betta#-ray spectra, #betta#-ray excitation functions, angular distributions, and #betta#-#betta# coincidence measurements were performed by means of Ge(Li) detectors. The results are discussed in terms of the variable-moment-of-inertia (VMI) model. For even-mass Cd isotopes a shell effect is observed, the nucleus becoming softer in the vicinity of the closed subshell. (author)
