Study of the short range order in amorphous alloys and the choice of annealing conditions

  • 1. Lanzhou Univ., GS (China). Dept. of Physics

Description

The Short Range order (SRO) in Fe84B10C6 amorphous alloy was studied by means of nuclear magnetic resonance and Moessbauer effect experiments. A detailed investigation was carried out to look for the optimum annealing conditions for the SRO study. It is found that there are body-centered tetragonal Fe3B-like and orthorhombic Fe3 (B,C)-like SRO in the as-quenched alloy. In studying the SRO in amorphous alloy by crystallization, a lower annealing temperature (slightly higher than the crystallization-initiation point of the amorphous alloy) and a shorter annealing time are recommended
