Description

By radiation processing in an irradiation facility equipped with Co-60 radiation sources, of maximum radioactivity 15 kCi (0,55 PBq) water soluble polymers and hydrophilic crosslinked polymers as superabsorbents were obtained. The water soluble polymers are nonionic or anionic polyelectrolytes. Total absorbed radiation dose are in the range 500 Gy - 700 Gy, determined with Fricke and ethanol chlorine benzene dosemeters. Technical characteristics of polymers are: average molecular weight, 3 - 15 x 106; anionic charge, 0 - 35%; residual monomer content, 0.02% to 0.1 %; swelling capacity, up to 500g/g. The utilization fields are: flocculants, binders, management of land, environmental protection and minimization of industrial and civilian risks. (authors)
