Description

The concepts and applications of the geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) are explained and details of computer software and hardware requirements are given. A review of applications of GIS and RS in livestock disease control programmes and land use planning is presented. The database development process and data analysis procedures and requirements are briefly outlined. The integration of the GIS and decision support systems is discussed in order to provide a cost-benefit analysis for GIS implementation. (author)
