Bunched beam Schottky signal measurements for the Tevatron stochastic cooling system
- 1. Fermi National Accelerator, Lab., Batavia, IL (United States)
Description
A prototype bunched beam stochastic cooling system has been installed in the Tevatron. The goal of the final system is to provide horizontal and vertical emittance cooling to both proton and antiproton bunches during colliding physics stores. In this paper the temperature and spectral beam measurements made during the commissioning of the prototype system, designed to cool the vertical emittance of proton bunches, are presented. In addition to Schottky signals, the observation of external and beam generated microwave modes and the response of the system to coherent beam excitation is reviewed. (author)
