Comparison of the action of radium 224 and other radioactive elements in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis

Description
The authors compared 5 radionuclides used in radiosynoviorthesis for the treatment of rheumatic polyarthritis. The excretion after injection into the knee-joints of a number of patient was studied. It was found that only colloidal solutions should be used, and that α and β sources are not effective enough. The chloride of the isotope 224Ra was less effective than the corresponding 198Au, 169Er, 90Y, and 186Re compounds. The clinical findings in more than 450 cases confirm these assumptions. (MG)

Die Autoren stellten einen Vergleich zwischen 5 Radionukliden an, die in der Radiosynoviorthese zur Behandlung der rheumatischen Polyarthritis angewendet werden. Es wurde die Ausscheidung nach Injektion in das Kniegelenk von mehreren Patienten untersucht. Es stellte sich heraus, dass nur kolloidale Loesungen Verwendung finden sollten und dass die Alpha- und Gammastrahler nich vorteilhaft sind. Das Chlorid des Isotops 224Ra erwies sich als weniger geeignet als die entsprechende 198Au-, 169Er-,90Y- und 189 Re-Verbindung. Die klinischen Resultate von mehr als 450 Faellen bestaetigten diese Annahme. (MG)
